Of the 114 members named to the Mississippi Department of Education’s 2025-2026 State Superintendent Advisory Council, 10 are students from the Golden Triangle.
The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science had seven students: Jasmaan Banipal, of Madison; Jeremy Bursell, of Clinton; Israel Cecil, of Olive Branch; Amy Choi, of Starkville; Christopher Chen, of New Albany; Katie Chung, of Starkville; and Makayla Wrenn, of Petal.
Banipal and Cecil are returning members from the 2024-2025 council.
Avani Pacharne and Angelina Tan, both from Starkville High School, were also named to the council.
Started in 2019, the council provides a forum for students across the state to share their opinions and offer advice about educational opportunities and policy in Mississippi at regular meetings with the state superintendent of education.
