STARKVILLE – A Weir man was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly drag racing on Highway 182 and fleeing police before crashing into an apartment complex.
Jaheim Woodard, 20, is charged with one felony count of fleeing or failure to stop when an officer signals, two felony counts of contributing to the neglect of a minor and one count of drag racing, a Starkville Police Department press release said.
Woodard was allegedly racing another car headed west on Highway 182 when SPD officers attempted to stop the cars.
Woodard fled in his car and officers pursued him onto Old West Point Road, where he lost control attempting to make a turn onto University Drive and crashed into a brick wall surrounding an apartment complex at 404 University Drive, the press release said.
Woodard and two children riding in the car were evaluated at OCH Regional Medical Center and all were released that night, Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said in a text to The Dispatch.
Woodard was released into police custody and taken to Oktibbeha County Jail.
No bond has been set for Woodard and the investigation is still ongoing, Lovelady said.
Anyone with further information about the case is asked to contact Starkville police at (662) 323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
