Visitors to The Dispatch”s website, cdispatch.com, may have noticed upgrades to our story commenting feature in recent days.
The new features allow visitors to “like” or “dislike” comments left by other readers, as well as mark them as inappropriate to remove them from the site for administrators to review.
Users leaving story comments will also be asked to register with a valid e-mail address. Users can select a unique username upon registration so they can remain anonymous; however, The Dispatch has access to a valid e-mail address for the user.
The changes are meant to help curb petty comments that are being left on some stories, and to help keep users from impersonating others. A valid e-mail address will help cdispatch.com administrators remind users of our story commenting guidelines, or ban the user if necessary.
As always, other users will be able to mark comments as inappropriate, which removes the comment from the site for administrators to review.
With the “like” and “dislike” feature, cdispatch.com visitors can sort comments by the most liked, as well as the time added to the site. Visitors don”t have to register to “like” or “dislike” a comment.
Existing eEdition subscribers will be able to comment on stories with their existing registration.
