Police are seeking a suspect in a Thursday afternoon shooting at an apartment complex near downtown.
Police responded to a shots-fired call at 1:41 p.m. and found a male gunshot victim lying behind a parked vehicle at Candlewood Apartments, 401 Fifth St. S.. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for treatment and was released Thursday evening, according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
“We believe the victim was shot one time and the victim and suspect knew one another,” Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said in the press release. “They were not strangers.”
No arrests have been made, but Public Information Officer Joe Dillon said police believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between the shooter and victim.
Investigators are seeking video surveillance from the area to help identify and locate the suspect, Dillon said.
Anyone with information on the case can contact Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151 or leave a tip via the P3 app. All tips are anonymous and Crime Stoppers may offer a cash reward.
