The intersection of Louisville Street and Lynn Lane could soon become home to a new Dairy Queen and gas station.
David Johnson, of the Meridian-based group Hattiesburg Queens Inc., said he hopes to have a site plan for the new fast food restaurant approved this month. Construction would follow in November, he said, and the Dairy Queen could open in the spring.
The new business could hire 35 to 60 employees for its opening day, he said.
“We’re excited about coming to Starkville and are hopeful we can get all of our plans through the city,” Johnson said.
Preliminary plans presented during Thursday’s Starkville Design Review Committee meeting show the Dairy Queen will locate at the southeastern corner of the Louisville Street-Lynn Lane intersection, with points of access and exit located on each road.
A proposed five-foot, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk would run between the restaurant and Louisville Street and connect to the existing Lynn Lane multi-use path.
Another developer is expected to submit plans for a new gas station across the street from Dairy Queen, to the north, in the future, City Planner Daniel Havelin said.
Both developments are expected to pipe an existing drainage ditch, he said, improving the area’s aesthetics.
“Both developments are big pluses for that area. This is going to be a modern-style gas station, with glass windows along the front and a facade with a brick finish along the side,” Havelin said.
A third development — a storage business on Eudora Welty Drive, near Avalon Apartments — was also presented during Thursday’s design review meeting.
Contact information for the gas station’s and self-storage business’ developers was not immediately available Thursday.
