Columbus Police Department had a busy weekend, with two reported aggravated assaults. One involved gunplay, the other a Buick.
A man identified as Damien Brown allegedly forced his way into a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn, 510 Highway 45 North, around 1:25 a.m. Macy L. Barnes, 23, and her boyfriend were inside, and Brown and the boyfriend got into a physical altercation.
When Brown attempted to flee, Barnes went outside, got in a Buick and ran over him, CPD Public Information Officer Bryan Moore said.
Brown sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Barnes has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. As of press time she is still in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Burglary charges are pending against Brown, Moore said.
Another incident happened at Club Ada, 2005 13th Avenue North, according to Moore. Officers responded to the club around 1 a.m. on Sunday for a report of a disturbance. While on the scene, a witness told the officer there had been a shooting and the victim had been taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
A 36-year-old male victim turned up shortly afterward at the emergency room with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, Moore said.
Both the victim and witnesses told officers he had not been in any confrontations or involved in any street beef that he knew of, Moore said.
Police have identified a person of interest, but are not releasing a name at this time, Moore said.
Finally, police are looking for Kerry “Tay Tay” Smith, 29, of Columbus in connection with a March 5 shooting incident.
Smith allegedly shot another man multiple times after the two got into a dispute in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue North.
Anyone with any information on any of these incidents is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151 or use the P3 smartphone app. Tipsters remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest.
