The city of Columbus is looking for applicants for a seat on the Columbus Municipal School District board.
Glenn Lautzenhiser’s current five-year term expires March 7. The school board consists of five council-appointed members.
Lautzenhiser said he is still mulling over reapplying for the position. He has held the position for 25 years.
“I haven’t made a final decision,” he told The Dispatch on Monday afternoon. “I do plan to make a final decision this week or early next week. I have enjoyed serving on the board. It’s been an honor and a privilege, and I think we have a good thing going. I’ve been an advocate for CMSD all the time I’ve been on the board and will continue to be an advocate.”
City Chief Operations Officer David Armstrong said the city has officially posted the CMSD position for application and usually accepts applications for 30 days.
Lautzenhiser currently serves as the board secretary. The rest of the CMSD is president Angela Verdell, Jason Spears, Currie Fisher and Stephen Jones.
Jones has qualified to run in the upcoming special election that will fill the Ward 5 seat on the city council. Jones told The Dispatch he will probably step down from his CMSD post if he wins the special election, which will be held in February. Gary Jefferson has also qualified to run in the special election.
