One man is dead after a street sweeper collided with an 18-wheeler Wednesday on Industrial Park Road.
Leslie Brent Williamson, of Columbus, who was driving the street sweeper, was killed in the collision, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant wrote in a text to media outlets.
Williamson was operating the sweet sweeper on Industrial Park Road at about 3 p.m. when it collided with the 18-wheeler hauling scrap metal to Steel Dynamics.
Merchant said authorities are still “working through” the exact cause of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by LCSO.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this difficult time,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said in a press release. “We ask motorists to remain cautious and attentive, especially around commercial and maintenance vehicles operating on our roadways.”
