PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. – A Columbus man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison for the April 2024 armed robbery of a Dollar General in Reform.
Jaylen Kenyatta Harris, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Pickens County Circuit Court to first-degree robbery, with Judge Sam Junkin delivering the sentence, according to a press release from the office of the district attorney for Alabama’s 24th Circuit.
Harris admitted to robbing the store while wearing a mask and carrying a firearm, the press release said. Authorities located Harris shortly after the robbery during a traffic stop in Gordo, where investigators recovered a firearm, stolen cash, and clothing matching the suspect’s description inside the vehicle.
“This was a dangerous situation that was quickly resolved thanks to the fast response and teamwork of multiple agencies,” District Attorney Andy Hamlin said. “Armed robbery is a serious crime that puts lives at risk. This sentence reflects the severity of the offense and ensures Mr. Harris will be held accountable.”
