A Columbus man is facing an aggravated assault charge after authorities say he injured another man so severely the victim had to be hospitalized.
Officers with Columbus Police Department arrested Charles Wells, Jr., 41, of 610 Ave. B, on Tuesday, several days after the assault occurred.
Wells and the victim had a previous disagreement and got into an argument on April 11 that turned into a fight, according to a CPD press release.
The victim is currently at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, according to Police Chief Fred Shelton. While authorities said they could not release much information on the victim, they indicated his injuries are significant.
The press release said police do not know what weapon Wells used in the alleged assault.
Wells is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on $75,000 bond.
