Columbus-Lowndes Emergency 911 Director Melanie McCoy has stepped down from the post effective today.
McCoy had been director of the county and city’s emergency 911 services since January. Retired E-911 director Sheri Fancher will serve as interim director while the E-911 Board of Commissioners searches for McCoys’s replacement, according to a statement from board attorney William Cooper.
Before being promoted to director, McCoy had been with E-911 for more than 20 years in two stints in Lowndes County.
Fancher retired last year after nearly 30 years in E-911 services. Fancher had managed E-911 from 2008 until she retired last December.
McCoy had made a $48,000 salary.
