Columbus Fire and Rescue responded to two separate fires late Saturday morning, including a house fire and a vehicle fire. No injuries were sustained from either incident.
Firefighters arrived at a fully-involved house fire at approximately 11:48 a.m., located at 515 Holly Hills Road. Two people were inside the home but escaped safely, Public Information Officer Jaquay Sherrod told The Dispatch.
Sherrod said the fire originated in the garage. Crews contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading further, remaining on scene until 1:33 p.m.
Moderate damage was sustained to the garage, and the rest of the home suffered smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
At about the same time, CFR crews also responded to a vehicle fire in the Walmart parking lot on Highway 45. Upon arrival, the car was fully engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported.
Sherrod praised the driver’s quick response in a press release.
“The vehicle owner’s quick thinking to move the car away from other parked vehicles after noticing smoke likely prevented the fire from spreading to nearby cars,” Sherrod wrote in the press release. “Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze without further incident.”
Sherrod said crews were on scene for about 45 minutes.
Both fires remain under investigation.
