A fire that broke out Tuesday evening in a mobile home claimed the life of a 3-year-old child.
At shortly before 7 p.m., authorities received a call about a fire in a mobile home at geyer Mobile Home Park, 958 Sand Road. The mobile home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.
Landon Lowell Boyles-Jordan, 3, was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene by Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
According to Merchant, the child”s father, A.J. Jordan, told authorities that he stayed inside and tried to put the fire out, thinking his son was safe outside. As the fire spread, he went outside, calling for the child, who could not be found. He then went back inside to look for him, but by then, the smoke and fire was overwhelming.
The child”s mother, Bailey Boyles, was not at home at the time of the fire.
The Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office is investigating the incident, Merchant said. The state Fire Marshal”s office has been called in to determine the cause of the fire.
