Candidates for county and state offices will speak at a community political forum and answer citizen questions at the Anderson Grove Community Center Friday night.
Caledonia resident Walter Shinn invited candidates for nearly every county office with an election this year, as a non-partisan public service.
“If you do something for one candidate, one party, whatever, you have to do it for all,” he said. “I want (county residents) to know they have options. They have rights and they have the ability to make things better for themselves through voting.”
Shinn will continue to invite candidates up until the forum starts at 6 p.m. in order to make sure no one is left out and there isn’t an appearance of partisanship, he said. Candidates will each have three to five minutes to speak before taking questions from attendees.
“We want everyone to keep it respectful,” he said. “This isn’t about building walls. It’s about building bridges.”
Candidates for 11 offices have already committed to attend. They include:
■ Sheriff — Richard “Rick” Jones (R), Anthony Nelson (I) and Greg Wright (R);
■ Chancery Clerk — Joseph Mickens (D), Jessica Lancaster Pierce (R) and Andre D. Roberts (R);
