The Lowndes County School District Board of Trustees is slated to accept the resignation of Caledonia High School band director David Chambers Friday, according to the board agenda published online Tuesday night.
The Dispatch confirmed today Chambers is the subject of an investigation by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for sexual misconduct with several high school students.
Though neither law enforcement authorities nor district administrators have named Chambers, Wright previously told The Dispatch the teacher being investigated resigned Feb. 24. Chambers is the only teacher listed on the agenda whose resignation is effective that day. He is also the only CHS teacher whose resignation is already effective.
Wright said he could not comment on personnel matters, but he and other district employees said Chambers has worked for LSCD at least seven years.
Capt. Ryan Rickert with the LCSO said the investigation is ongoing and did not offer further comment.
LCSO opened the investigation last week after parents and district administrators alleged Chambers had been engaged in sexual misconduct with students. No arrests have been made in the case,
Chambers did not return several calls from The Dispatch by press time.
