The main gate at Columbus Air Force Base reopened Thursday afternoon after a military working dog alerted on a vehicle earlier in the day.
According to CAFB officials, the military working dog alerted on a vehicle attempting to enter the base through the main gate at approximately 11:05 a.m..
The base then went into “full precautionary status,” evacuated the area and closed the gate, officials said. The Tupelo Bomb Squad was called to the scene and cleared the threat around 1:20 Thursday afternoon, according to base officials. The gate was reopened shortly after.
