Since Starkville Nutrition opened last September, loaded teas have taken over the Golden Triangle.
With two Columbus nutrition-based businesses opening in May, two more locations have announced their openings in Starkville and West Point.
39759 Nutrition, 450 Hwy. 12 W. Suite B., opened in late May, becoming the second nutrition facility to offer loaded teas and shakes in Starkville. 39759 is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
West Point Nutrition, 26493 E. Main St., opened last month, offering loaded teas and meal replacement shakes Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Wendy Taylor, who opened Starkville Nutrition last year with her husband Heath, said each nutrition store in the Golden Triangle serves the same products as Starkville Nutrition, but has opened with its individual owners. The new nutrition clubs in the area are all branched from Herbalife, a national nutrition and weight loss distributor, which now boasts nearly 6,000 nutrition stores nationwide creating a boom throughout the nation.
Taylor credits the “nutrition boom” in the area to the demand from Golden Triangle residents.
“In the South, people want to be healthy but they don’t have the options,” Taylor said. “With these studios, (the drinks are) low calorie, low carb, low sugar but it tastes good. I think there’s just a real need for it especially in the small towns of Mississippi. People are taking advantage of it.”
Opening Starkville Nutrition, located on Russell Street, and watching other business owners take off has been exciting to watch, Taylor added.
“They’re everywhere, Starkville, Columbus and West Point,” Taylor said. “The loaded tea, it’s loaded with vitamins and anti-oxidants. The meal replacement shake, instead of going and eating a high calorie meal, you can have a protein shake that’s low calorie, low carb and low sugar. It’s actually really good for you. People love them and they feel amazing on them. It’s just a clean energy.”
Starkville has also added a new insurance agent to the market.
Troy Allred Shelter Insurance, 501 Hwy. 12 W. Suite 150A., opened office last month, offering home, life, renters and general liability insurance. Allred Insurance is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Boardtown Grooming, a pet grooming facility, closed its doors after four years of business.
The company, 113 B Martin Luther King Dr. W., announced its last day was Wednesday on social media.
Over in Columbus, Rock Bottom Furniture has officially opened at its new location.
Moving just next door to 201 U Alabama St., Rock Bottom offers low prices on furniture, mattresses and more. Owner Chris Carter said since opening in October, business has been steadfast demanding the need to move to a larger facility.
“We carry more appliances, more beds, more of everything,” Carter said. “It’s doing pretty well. We opened the doors and we did well. We moved here and it’s just growing. We’re wide open now, things are rolling real well. I’m happy with it.”
Carter is hosting the company’s grand opening all day Saturday with barbecue and one-day only discounts, including 10 percent off purchases of more than $1,000. Rock Bottom Furniture is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
