Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Columbus teen in connection with a shooting in Crawford last week.
Dantavious Hairston, 19, of 8361 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., was arrested Tuesday afternoon. Hairston is accused of shooting a man in Crawford at about 6 p.m. Sept. 29, according to authorities.
The shooting victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, LCSO Capt. Ryan Rickert said.
The shooting allegedly happened after several adults became involved in a dispute that started among a group of minors. The victim was not involved in the dispute and just happened to be passing near “the wrong place at the wrong time,” Rickert said.
Hairston was charged with aggravated assault manifesting in an extreme difference to life. Justice court judges will likely set his bond next week, Rickert said. Hairston remains in custody in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
