Local law enforcement agencies arrested at least 20 suspects for allegedly driving under the influence over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information Office Trooper Bryant Flake said MHP’s arrested 19 suspects for DUI during the agency’s holiday enforcement period from Wednesday to Sunday. Flake could not provide the number of citations issued in that time frame.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office issued 25 traffic citations with no DUI arrests made in that same time frame, Dick Spann, LCSO chief deputy, told The Dispatch.
Columbus Police Department made 15 arrests with one of them being for DUI, Public Information Officer Bryan Moore said. Moore said he could not verify the amount of citations issued in that time frame as they had not all processed through the court system.
Joey Berry of the records division for the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office said deputies made 29 arrests between Wednesday and Sunday. Berry could not verify if any of these arrests were for DUI or how many citations the deputies had issued over that time frame.
Across the state, MHP made 85 DUI arrests and issued 6,492 citations, according to a press release from Captain Criss Turnipseed.
Starkville Police Department did not provide requested information to The Dispatch by press time.
