Two men are behind bars following their arrests for unrelated alleged assaults, including a shooting that left a 20-year-old man injured.
Kameron Coffey, 17, is charged with aggravated assault, a Starkville Police Department press release said.
Police responded just after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday to Chandler Park Apartments on Reed Road after receiving a report of a shooting.
At the scene, they found the victim suffering a gunshot wound. He was then taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County for treatment and has since been released.
The press release said the shooting followed a physical altercation between Coffey and the victim, who knew each other prior to the incident. Coffey was arrested at about 9 a.m. Wednesday at the apartment complex and taken to Oktibbeha County Jail.
In connection to an unrelated incident, Cardell Clark Jr., 21, was charged with domestic violence-aggravated assault Tuesday for allegedly strangling a female victim at the Collegiate Heights apartments on Lynn Lane.
Police responded just after noon Tuesday to the apartment complex in regard to an “unwanted person” who refused to leave the property, the press release said.
Upon arriving, officers found Clark at a nearby gas station. Clark was arrested and taken to Oktibbeha County Jail.
Bond had not been set for either suspect as of press time Wednesday.
Both investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information about either incident is encouraged to contact SPD at (662) 323-4131, Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151, or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD website. Crime Stoppers may offer a cash reward.
