A security guard at Greentree Apartments was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with an unknown suspect Thursday night, according to Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Hawkins said about 11:30 p.m. a security guard at the complex, located off of Lehmberg Road, was making his rounds on foot. He was walking back to his car and saw someone in it.
“He confronted the person, and they exchanged gunfire,” Hawkins said.
The guard was struck in the hand and the thigh, Hawkins said, and was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. He was treated and released.
The suspect, who was apparently uninjured, fled the scene.
Hawkins said there are security cameras in the complex, but investigators have not gotten the footage yet.
Anyone with knowledge of this case or any additional information is asked to contact Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-328-6788 or call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151. Tips can also be submitted via the P3 Tips smartphone app.
