WEST POINT — A suspect wanted for shooting a man in April at the victim’s home is behind bars.
Latelvin Sample, 29, is charged with aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon, according to a press release from Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Eddie Scott told The Dispatch the victim reported “two or three guys” came to his house on Barton Ferry Road on April 20, knocked on the door and pulled a gun on him. The victim and suspects fought over the gun, and one of the attackers allegedly shot the victim twice — once in the arm and once on the hand.
The victim later identified Sample as the shooter, Scott said, but has not identified the other assailants.
Clay County deputies heard Thursday afternoon that Sample was at the Sportsplex in West Point and arrested him there, Scott said. They recovered a firearm Sample was hiding under his waistband.
Sample is being held in Clay County Detention Center with bond set at $75,307.75. His initial justice court appearance is Thursday.
