A 48-year-old woman”s morning shower was interrupted Thursday when a burglar broke into her home.
Rodney Wayne Shaw, 43, of 801 Alabama St., shattered the window of a sliding glass door to enter the house in the 200 block of Kermit Street at about 7:44 a.m.
The woman heard the noise and went to the rear of the house, where she found the defendant climbing inside, said Columbus Police Public Information Officer Terrie Songer.
Shaw, who was apparently intoxicated, told the woman he was “running from someone,” according to police reports.
The owner was able to run to a neighbor”s house, where she called 911. Officers arrived at the location to find Shaw still inside.
He surrendered himself without incident, Songer said.
Shaw, whose bond was set at $5,000, was charged with burglary of a dwelling.
The defendant has had several run-ins with the law in the past. Aside from several charges of acting under a false pretense, Shaw has had multiple DUIs and was charged with burglary once before in 2000.
