ABERDEEN — Aberdeen Ward 2 Alderman Cloyd Garth is being sued for defaulting on a federal student loan.
The suit, filed Thursday in Mississippi”s Northern District Federal Court, claims Garth, who is recovering from a recent stroke, owes more than $60,000.
Garth consolidated his student loan March 10, 2007.
The complaint against Garth states “repeated demands have been made by plaintiff upon the defendant for payment of the sums due, but defendant has neglected, failed and refused to pay the indebtedness.”
Calls to Garth went unanswered Friday.
Garth was hospitalized Saturday after suffering a stroke. He has been named as a defendant in four federal lawsuits since 2006. Three remain open.
