PELHAM, Ala. – An 84-year-old Pelham man is being held in the Shelby County jail on a murder charge, and an attorney says the victim was his 77-year-old wife.
The Birmingham News reports that court records show William Virgil Proctor had filed for divorce from his wife, Gwendolyn Elizabeth Guggle Proctor, in January.
Police in Pelham say the victim was found dead in her home on Friday.
Ferris Ritchey III, the woman”s attorney, says Gwendolyn Proctor was the victim.
Documents show a Shelby County judge had ordered the couple to appear later this week at a mediation and settlement conference.
William Proctor is being held on $75,000 bond.
