A two-vehicle wreck on Highway 25 in southern Oktibbeha County claimed the life of an 8-year-old Starkville boy and injured two other family members Wednesday afternoon.
Wyatt Rodgers was pronounced dead at OCH Regional Medical Center after the collision near the highway’s intersection with Craig Springs Road, a Mississippi Highway Patrol press release says.
Brad Murphy, 36, of Philadelphia rear-ended the vehicle driven by Jamie Rodgers, 34, at about 4:15, the release says. Rodgers’ passengers included his wife, Holly, 25, and sons Wyatt and 5-year-old Maximus
Both Holly Rodgers and Maximus Rodgers were taken from OCH to a Jackson hospital to be treated for their injuries, and Murphy and Jamie Rodgers were uninjured, MHP Public Information Officer Sgt. Derrick Beckom said.
Wyatt was a second-grader at Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary, and Maximus is a pre-K student at Sudduth Elementary, according to a Wednesday night Facebook post from HWS.
“It is with a heavy heart the HWS family shares tonight that we have lost one of our little yellow jackets,” the post reads.
