LOWNDES COUNTY – Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a suspect in a Saturday night armed robbery at Family Dollar in New Hope.
According to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release, a female employee was closing the store at 2910 Tabernacle Road at about 10:33 p.m. when a masked man brandishing a handgun approached her while she was locking the door. While holding the employee at gunpoint, the suspect forced her to unlock the door and let him in, striking the employee in the head several times to ensure compliance with his demands.
The suspect forced the employee to unlock the store’s safe. He also took the employee’s phone temporarily, keeping her from calling 911. After stealing the money, the man fled on foot, leaving the employee’s phone behind as he left.
Detectives are urging residents in the area to check their security cameras or recording devices for evidence that could aid the investigation.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office or call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
