STARKVILLE — A Starkville High School student was arrested Wednesday after an unloaded gun was found on campus.
School resource officers found the firearm in the student’s possession, according to an emailed statement from Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District officials, and no one was injured. The case for the student, whom officials did not identify, will be handled in juvenile court, public information officer Nicole Thomas said.
The district did not release any further details of the incident.
On the same day, Armstrong Junior High School students and staff observed caution standby procedures, starting at 11 a.m., after a report of a weapon on campus. Thomas said the status was lifted about an hour later and no weapon was ever found.
“The safety and security of our students, faculty and staff is our first priority,” Superintendent Eddie Peasant said in an emailed statement. “Our school district takes this situation very seriously and will adhere to the fullest extent of established district policies and procedures for disciplinary action.”
