STARKVILLE — Oktibbeha County sheriff’s deputies have one suspect in custody and are looking for two others in connection with a Thursday night shooting at the Chadwick Apartments east of the Mississippi State University campus.
Samuel Lee Kirkland, 20 of Lexington, is charged with one count each of armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Deputies responded to a shots-fired call at the apartments on East Lee Boulevard just after 7 p.m. Thursday. By the time they arrived, two victims had gone to OCH Regional Medical Center with apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims have since been treated and released.
Mississippi State issued a Maroon Alert indicating that a suspect had fled the shooting on foot toward the campus, and university police employed K-9 units to assist with the search. About an hour later, another Maroon Alert said the suspect was no longer believed to be in the campus area.
Capt. Brett Watson said OCSO is seeking two other suspects, both juveniles, in the incident. He said investigators on Saturday morning located a vehicle they believe the juveniles were driving — a silver 1990 Oldsmobile 98 with heavy rust on top.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact OCSO at 62-323-2421 or its investigations unit at 662-324-8484.
