One person has died after the motorcycle they were driving ran off the road in Columbus Wednesday night.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as Donald Scott Carley, 52, of Columbus, a former owner of Thai by Thai restaurant and local musician.
Police Chief Fred Shelton said Carley was driving west toward Starkville on Highway 82 when the motorcycle veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail near Fairfield Inn at about 10 p.m., according to a Columbus Police Department press release.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, the press release said. Investigators said at the time of the wreck, the roads were still dry, meaning stormy weather did not play a role in the accident.
