Investigators have arrested a man for a Monday homicide in North Columbus.
Jatavis Deonte Williams, 21, has been charged with murder after turning himself in to Columbus Police Department on Wednesday morning, according to a CPD press release issued later that day. He has also been charged with two counts of aggravated assault for a separate shooting incident at the King’s Court on Main Street on Oct. 28, which sent two people to the hospital.
Williams is accused in the death of Tarcari Tyshun Walker, 24, who was shot near the intersection of Seventh Avenue North and 22nd Street at about noon Monday after apparently becoming involved in an argument with Williams. Though when police arrived they attempted CPR, Walker died on the porch of a nearby home.
CPD had identified Williams as a person of interest in the case on Tuesday, asking for the public’s help in locating him.
In the Wednesday press release, CPD Chief Fred Shelton thanked investigators and members of the public who assisted them.
“Once we put the word out that we wanted to talk to (Williams), his friends and family convinced him that the best thing to do was not to run and come and talk to us,” Shelton said. “Thank you for the community support and the great work by the members of the Columbus Police Department Investigation, Patrol and Crime Lab divisions.”
Williams is in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
