As the holidays inch closer, many businesses shut their doors for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the day after.
However, some restaurants, pharmacies and grocery stores will stay open for last-minute shoppers.
Although Walmart will not be open on Christmas in either Columbus or Starkville, Family Dollar will stay open — a plus for families that might run out of sugar or flour while baking their favorite holiday desserts. Family Dollar also has some children’s toys and electronics options for those still searching for gifts.
Family Dollar in Starkville, located on North Jackson Street, and both Columbus locations on Main Street and Alabama Street will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
CVS Pharmacy, located on Highway 12 in Starkville will also be open on Christmas Day from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. And both Rite-Aid locations in Columbus will keep their doors open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Maybe your family isn’t into home-cooking meals for the holidays. That’s okay, because Ryan’s, located at 1201 Highway 45 N. in Columbus will be open Christmas Eve 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Christmas Day 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
If a buffet isn’t your style, Waffle House is always a trustworthy holiday dining option that never closes its doors. And with locations in Columbus, Starkville and West Point, all Golden Triangle residents can have a place to eat.

In Starkville, a new storage unit facility is coming to Eudora Welty Drive, located off Highway 25.
Starkville Storage, which will be owned and operated by Memphis-based Absolute Storage Management, is just one of the company’s 100 locations.
Absolute Storage CEO Michael Haugh said the facility will offer 76,000 square feet of storage space, including traditional drive-in units, climate controlled units and covered RV parking spots. That’s a lot of storage space.
Keep in mind, Your Extra Closet opened their fourth location on North Jackson Street back in September. And with other options like Moreland Storage, located on Louisville Street, Clayton Village Mini Storage and other local facilities, Starkville residents will not have a shortage of options when considering a storage unit.
Haugh said he expects Starkville Storage to open in April.
At the corner of Lynn Lane and Louisville Street, construction just started for a convenience store. Mariela Concia of Richland-based M&P Construction, the project contractor, said the property is owned by The SB Group. The Madison-based owner did not respond to calls from The Dispatch.
Moving to Columbus, the AT&T store located at 2005 Highway 45 N., is expected to undergo renovations soon. According to Columbus Building Official Ken Wiegel, permits will be granted this week for the store to complete “interior alterations.”
