The body of a Columbus man discovered on Waterworks Road will go to Jackson for an autopsy at the state medical examiner’s office Thursday, Columbus Police Department Assistant Chief Fred Shelton confirmed.
The body of Benjamin Wells, 26, was found near the 700 block of Waterworks at about 3 a.m. Monday. Both Columbus police and Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, who identified Wells, said the body did not appear to have any signs of trauma.
An autopsy will confirm cause of death, though Shelton said he does not know when those results will be released.
The Dispatch could not reach Merchant by press time.
