COLUMBUS — After more than 20 years, The Wherehouse is bringing “The Nutcracker” back to Columbus, featuring more than 100 local performers ranging from 3-year-olds to adults. The production blends classical ballet with community participation, giving families a chance to share the stage across generations.
Organizers say the production has been as much a social experience as a performance. Rehearsals have revealed leadership, creativity, teamwork, and joy among the dancers, while volunteers behind the scenes—from costume and set crews to stagehands—have been essential in bringing the show to life. Most of the costumes for this production are handmade, highlighting the care and attention that goes into every detail. Senior dancers mentor younger performers, helping even the smallest “Snow Babies” fall in love with the ballet.
“Every chance to perform is a fleeting moment,” organizers said, “and watching our dancers grow up together under the magical ‘Growing Tree’ is what makes this production special.”
Performances are scheduled for Dec. 6 and 7 at The Lyceum at Lee. Organizers thank their sponsors for making the production possible and invite the community to begin a new holiday tradition with this local celebration of music, dance, and theater.
