I know I have gone on record stating I am not a huge sweets person extensively in some of my previous columns, and that remains true.
Though I must admit I have found myself eating more sweet treats, especially in the last few months.
However, I have always had two sweet things I love, Reese’s Pieces and cookies.
When I found out you could combine the two, my waistline has never been the same.
I have always had a soft spot for cookies for as long as I can remember. I, unlike many people, even love oatmeal raisin cookies.
However, cookies with M&Ms baked into them have always been what could be considered my favorite.
I, even to this day, relentlessly devour the tasty little morsels and usually want more.
I was later in life being introduced to Reese’s Pieces though. I can’t say for certain when that happened, but I do remember liking them a lot.
I am not a fan of the peanut butter cups. I will eat them, but to me, they are just a bit too much. I can’t narrow it down to just one aspect of the treat, it is just too much, that’s the only way I know to say it.
The pieces, however, give you the flavors of the cup in a much smaller package, making it easier to manage.
I can eat an entire pack of pieces in one sitting if I don’t control myself.
On to the cookies though.
The first time I tried the Reese’s Pieces peanut butter cookies, I knew I had found something special.
I loved the chewy consistency of the cookies paired with the crunch of the Reese’s Pieces. The added peanut butter chips helped accentuate the flavor of the pieces and made for an even more enjoyable experience.
I just had to find a recipe to make these for myself. I found one that closely matched the store bought variety and set to work trying my hand at making them.
The end result was a success!
I found that the homemade variety was just as good, if not a little bit better, than the store bought. I devoured many of them, but I was willing to share with my family, albeit begrudgingly.
They too seemed to enjoy the treats, and I believe this may become a new holiday staple for the foreseeable future.
