COLUMBUS — Americana/folk duo Ordinary Elephant will return to Mississippi Friday, Nov. 14, performing at the Columbus Arts Council in a show presented by The Barn Concert Series. The CAC is at 501 Main St. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.
Married couple Crystal Hariu-Damore and Pete Damore have spent much of the last decade on a near-constant tour, earning widespread critical acclaim and fans among folk luminaries such as Tom Paxton and Mary Gauthier. In 2017, the duo won the International Folk Music Award for Artist of the Year for their breakout album “Before I Go”. Two years later, they released “Honest”, which the Associated Press hailed as “one of the best Americana albums of the year.” This November, they return to Mississippi with another IFMA nomination, this time for Album of the Year.
Their new self-titled album is a stripped-down, pure distillation of their sound, highlighting the couple’s harmonies and intricate fretwork. The songs are timeless, rooted in character-driven storytelling, with performances fueled by delicately intertwined banjo, guitar and octave mandolin. Though written during a period of uncertainty, the album radiates confidence and collaboration, showcasing a duo whose personal and professional lives exemplify honest, organic artistry. Press play, and you’ll hear more than just a husband and wife—you’ll hear sincerity, patience, gratitude and the beauty of reveling in the moment.
Philadelphia-based Sug Daniels will open the evening. A ukulele player, singer-songwriter, storyteller and producer, Daniels blends folk, rock and soul to create personal, tender music interlaced with messages of truth and positive change. Her performances are as colorful, vulnerable and charismatic as her personality.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at barnconcertseries.com.
