The Kiwanis Club of Columbus is bringing back its Memorial Weekend 5K Benefit Run for the fourth year, this time benefitting My Book of Lowndes County.
The race will kick off at 8 a.m. May 24, with the starting line on Main Street in front of the Tennessee Williams Home and Welcome Center, club board member Floyd McIntyre told The Dispatch on Thursday.
The race route will wind through the Roger Short Soccer Complex, McIntyre said, before racers head back toward the finish line near the Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce.
“Our aim is to help the children of Columbus and Lowndes County,” McIntyre said. “That’s why we focus on projects that benefit children and, of course, we need the community’s support in order to carry on these projects.”
For its first two years, McIntyre said, the race benefitted autism resources at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library. The race’s third year benefitted Camp Rising Sun.
Registration is just $20 per racer, McIntyre said, and participants each get a t-shirt and refreshments after the race. To register in advance, go to k00478.site.kiwanis.org.
