As students prepare to return to school for the 2023-24 academic year, Junior Auxiliary of Columbus members have been busy with the return of Art Reach. Originally established due to CDC guidelines during Covid, this project has continued because of its positive impact on the students and teachers of our community.
Through Art Reach, more than 1,600 zipper bags filled with art and school supplies were delivered to elementary schools throughout Lowndes County. Met with a smile and sincere words of appreciation from school representatives, Art Reach committee members delivered boxes upon boxes of individual zippered bags this past week in preparation for the new school year to start soon. Each Art Reach bag is filled with markers, colored pencils, crayons, No. 2 pencils, a pencil sharpener, scissors, glue, a ruler and a specialized note card from JA wishing each student a happy first day of school.
JA of Columbus fourth year active member, Casey Thomas, chairs the project.
“It’s been another amazing summer kicking off our Art Reach project!” Thomas said. “Art Reach provides every elementary student in the Columbus Municipal School District with their very own art supply bag. This bag not only prepares them for a year of hard work, but it also allows each student to walk into school with their heads held high and the confidence they need to bring their school work to life. JA of Columbus cannot wait to see all of the amazing school work these students create this year!”
JA of Columbus carries out multiple service projects throughout the year, and it is only because of our gracious community donors that we are able to serve the children of our community. This year, JA of Columbus was selected to receive a grant from the International Paper Foundation. This grant particularly aided in the execution of this project.
Our chapter is sincerely grateful for this grant and our many community donors.
