Junior Auxiliary of Columbus recently announced its executive board for the 2023-24 year.
Members are Ashli Dunn, parliamentarian; Misty Sharp, president; Amy Sumrall, vice president; Joni Frye, treasurer; Jaimie Beckham, recording secretary; Laura Catherine Yeatman, corresponding secretary; Betsy Swedenburg, welfare chair; Pinkie Edwards, civic chair; Sarah Bean, service chair; Alison Alexander, finance chair; Margaret Rollins, assistant ball chair; Lacy Cooper, public relations chair; Renee Phillips, education chair; Marla Fisher, scholarship chair; and Heather Brignac, house chair.
The 71 Junior Auxiliary of Columbus members, including 16 provisional members, volunteered their time over the last year in service to Lowndes County children. More than 11,000 volunteer hours were recorded by members through the various chapter projects offered to the children in our community.
These projects include welfare programs in which children are provided food, clothing and mentorship from a JA member. Other service projects focus on providing needed art supplies to students and presenting topics on anti-bullying, health and nutrition, and future financial planning. One chapter favorite that is presented each year is Challenge of Champions where children with varying abilities are included in a field day with their peers that ends in a big celebration. Last year’s provisional class created and implemented the chapter’s newest project, Best Foot Forward, aimed at providing local children in need with quality footwear. The Junior Auxiliary of Columbus members are excited to continue to serve the children of Lowndes County in the upcoming year.
