Irish singer-songwriter Pat Byrne, now living in Austin, Texas, will appear at The Barn on Thursday. Parking and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and music will start at 7 p.m. at the Mac Davis Road location.
In the midst of a southern tour, Byrne will make his way to Columbus fresh off an “In the Round” performance with fellow musicians Jaimee Harris and Brian Dunne at Nashville’s famous Bluebird Cafe.
After moving to the U.S. In 2019, Byrne has become a staple of the Austin music scene and has garnered glowing press from that exceptional music town.
Writing in The Austin American Statesman, Peter Blackstock said, “The raspy melodic soul of Byrne’s voice recalls the emotional spells the late Austin troubadour Jimmy LaFave used to cast, though Byrne’s songwriting bears a distinctive Irish stamp. He’s more contemporary than strict traditionalists, putting him more in the league of Glen Hansard or Luka Bloom.”
Tom Thornton of Riff Magazine wrote, “Pat Byrne lives in Austin and traffics in the kind of earnest roots rock championed by artists like Shakey Graves. His voice and songwriting chops show the reason he’s attracted a lot of attention. Look for a big things from this artist.”
And in a review posted on the website Ear to the Ground Music, “The overall sound draws easy comparisons to modern gritty Americana artists like David Ramirez, Ryan Adams, and Jason Isbell. Byrne deserves to be in that company with his gritty vocal and poignant lyrical style.”
Byrne has played all across the country, with shows at the 30A Festival, SXSW, Kerrville Folk Festival and the Americana Festival. Opening the show will be North Alabama teenager Lindy Urban who is making a name for herself in the music mecca of Muscle Shoals.
As they do at every show at The Barn, venue owners Steve and Kay Ellis provide dinner for the audience. Local favorite CJ’s Pizza will be bringing its signature dish pizza to the show for everyone to enjoy. In exchange for the free dinner and beverages, the Ellises place donation jars around the venue to benefit a local charity. FORGE Your Path Career Expo, an event connecting thousands of 8th grade students from across North Mississippi with industry professionals, will be the focus of this concert’s fundraising efforts.
Tickets for concerts at The Barn are $30 and are available at barnconcertseries.com.
