The Golden Triangle Civil War Roundtable was founded more than 40 years ago by Starkville Civil War Historians William Parrish, Duffy Neubauer, Michael Ballard and John Marszalek. For many years, members have not only been treated to great fellowship with Golden Triangle’s Civil War enthusiasts, but also with very interesting talks about the Civil War, concerning both the Confederacy and Union.
On Tuesday, the Roundtable will kick off its 2025-26 season with a social time beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a 7 p.m. program at the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District building, 106 Miley Drive. The Roundtable invites all who are interested in learning more about the Civil War to come join us and bring friends.
The speaker for the evening will be Larry Allen McCluney, Jr. He has been a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans for more than 29 years and the Sixth Commander-in Chief of the combined boards that oversee Beauvoir, the last home of Jefferson Davis. He also is a former member of the Golden Triangle Civil War Roundtable and a Civil War Reenactor.
McCluney received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University, and taught history in the public high school system and at Mississippi Delta Community College until his retirement in 2025. He has won numerous teaching awards, and was placed on the Who’s Who of America’s Top Teachers.
He is also an award-winning author of four books, among which is his latest book, “Gunboats, Rivers, Bayous, and Railroads.” Larry lives in Greenwood, Mississippi with his wife, Julia Annette.
The Roundtable looks forward to welcoming visitors to its first meeting of the 2025-26 season.
The Roundtable meets regularly on the second Tuesday of the month from September to April. For any questions, call Duffy Neubauer at (662) 617-9962.
