STARKVILLE — Starkville Town and Country Garden Club’s Garden Therapy Committee helped residents of the Goldton create pumpkin floral arrangements on Oct. 10.
“Our Garden Therapy Committee is responsible for working with local assisted living and personal care homes to provide educational programs and floral design workshops for residents,” said Committee Co-chair Lynn Infanger. “We love the personal interaction with residents and preparing floral arrangements residents at facilities can enjoy. The pumpkin floral design day at the Goldton was a special day enjoyed by garden club members and residents alike.”
Committee Co-chairs Sonjia McReynolds and Lynn Infanger helped coordinate the activity with Goldton Activities Director, Ruby Islas. Preparation included purchasing the pumpkins at Twigs Nursery and Landscaping as well as flowers and plants at Oktibbeha County Co-Op and Lowe’s. Garden club members then prepared the pumpkins by cleaning out the pumpkin insides the day before.
“We had all types of fall foliage, bedding plants (pansies and violas), ferns, herbs, cabbage, and snapdragons,” McReynolds said. “Leaves, berries, and pinecones were also available for residents to use as fall accents.”

Garden club members helped residents select flowers and plants for their unique arrangement; and upon completion, residents took them to their private rooms to enjoy.
“We also took larger fall pumpkin arrangements to other assisted living facilities in Starkville, including the Bee Hive, Starkville Manor, the Carrington, and Montgomery Gardens. It was important for residents at other facilities to have something to enjoy as well,” McReynolds said.
The pumpkin floral arrangement project was funded by both the Starkville Town and Country Garden Club and the Goldton.
The Starkville Town and Country Garden Club strives to learn, share, and enhance our surroundings by creating beautiful floral arrangements, improving and/or maintaining gardens and landscaping in the community, and conserving our environment.
