East Mississippi Community College’s Workforce and Community Services division launched new software that allow students to sign up and pay for non-credit workforce classes online.

The Augusoft program, dubbed “SignUp!” by EMCC staff, went live Oct. 19, allowing students to go online and browse available classes, fill out demographic information, select classes and pay class fees by credit or debit card.

Previously, students wishing to take a short-term, non-credit workforce class had to visit one of EMCC’s campuses to speak with staff in order to register and find out about class schedules.

Students also have the option of visiting with workforce staff in person and paying their fees at the business office.

Students can access the site at eastms.augusoft.net or through the Signup! link posted on the Workforce Training page at www.eastms.edu.

Golden Triangle residents to perform in Tupelo concert

Itawamba Community College will present its 2021 fall choral concert at 7 p.m., Nov. 18, at The Link Center in Tupelo.

The choir will perform selections from a program of Christmas music, and the chamber singers, a collection of sacred and secular works.

Students who are from the Golden Triangle will participate. They include Kinnedy Johnson, David Sloan, both of Columbus; Anna Hogan, of New Hope; and Javine Dismukes, of Starkville.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Apply for AFA’s Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship

High school seniors impacted by Alzheimer’s disease can win up to $5,000 for college through the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship. Students can enter the contest by visiting www.alzfdn.org/scholarship. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2022.

College-bound high school seniors are invited to apply for the scholarship by submitting an essay (1,500 words maximum) describing how Alzheimer’s disease has impacted their lives and what they have learned about themselves, their family and/or their community through their experience with Alzheimer’s. Essays can be submitted by visiting www.alzfdn.org/scholarship. Students already attending college are not eligible to participate.

Awards range from first prize of $5,000, second prize of $3,500, third prize of $2,500, fourth prize of $1,500, and fifth prize of $1,000 to honorable mentions between $750 and $400. Since the program’s inception, more than $350,000 in college scholarships have been awarded.

EMCC named among Top 150 Colleges in the nation

East Mississippi Community College was named to the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program’s list of Top 150 Community Colleges in the Nation for the fifth time since 2015.

The colleges were selected from a pool of nearly 1,000 public two-year colleges nationwide, according to a Nov. 2 press release by the Aspen Institute.
