■ Celebrate America250: Golden Triangle Singers present an America250 concert at the Tennessee Williams Home and Welcome Center in Columbus, 300 Main St., from 4-6 p.m. for a special “Sundays at the Museum” program.
Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4
■ West Point Sheriff’s Rodeo: Sheriff Eddie Scott presents the Sheriff’s Rodeo beginning at 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday evening at the Cattlemen’s Stockyard, 45 Rockin M Drive in West Point. The kid’s events are 5-6:30 p.m. while the rodeo will begin at 7:15. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children under 5 can attend for free. NCPRA/IPRA Rodeo entry is available online, local entries can call (205) 361-7120 on June 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, July 4
■ Caledonia’s 4th of July Parade: Caledonia Main Street invites the community to participate in their 4th of July Parade. Decorate your car, tractor, bike or side-by-side. Line up begins at 9 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Caledonia, 846 Main St., and the parade begins at 10.
■ Freedom Fest: The Columbus Air Force Base presents a “Historic Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza and Open House” to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The event features fireworks, live music, food trucks, a vendor market and a beer garden. Base gates open to the public at 2 p.m., entry is free and the event is open to the public.
■ Jeffery Simmons Fun Day and Fireworks: Jeffery Simmons will host his 4th of July celebration at Titans Field in Macon at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and there will be food, water slides, volleyball pools, live entertainment and more.
■ Peace, Love and Freedom: New Hope Strong will host its third “Peace, Love and Freedom” fireworks show at 6 p.m. at New Hope High School. There will be live music and food trucks, this event is free and open to the public.
■ Southside Blues Festival: The Southside Festival Committee invites the community to the Southside Blues Festival beginning at 6 p.m., hosted by Rick “Don’t Go” Mason with live entertainment by Dorthy McClung Lewis & The Annointed Songbirds, The Holyaires, Dr. Randy Conley & the Gifted and more.
Thursday, July 9
■ Gallery Reception: Columbus Arts Council invites the community to their latest gallery reception at the Columbus Arts Council, 501 Main St., to celebrate artists Lee Ann Merkl, Leigh Ann Edmonds and Mary Ellen Winborn. The reception is free and open to the public, and begins at 5:30 p.m., light refreshments will be served.
Saturday, July 11
■ Stop the Violence Rally: Councilwoman Lavonne Harris invites all youth ages 5th-12th grade to attend the “Stop the Violence Rally” at the J.M. Trotter Convention Center in Columbus, 402 2nd Avenue North. The rally is from 3-6 p.m. and is free to attend. Rita Brent will host and B for Better will perform. There will be free food, youth activities and more.
Wednesday, July 15
■ “Military War Dogs” Program: The Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum invites the public to attend its next Community Event Series program at the museum at 10:30 a.m. Patsy Stuart will present a program on military war dogs. The presentation will focus on the story of Lucca, a working dog who served with the United States Marine Corps. The program is free and open to the public.
Saturday, July 18
■ Dancing in the Park: KMG Creations presents the 17th annual “Dancing in the Park” from 9–11 a.m. at Fire Station Park, 503 E. Lampkin St. in Starkville. Performances begin at 9:30 a.m. and feature Latin Coast, the Starkville Steppers, and other local groups. In the event of rain, the celebration will be moved to Rick’s Cafe.
Friday, July 31
■ Casino Night: The Lowndes Community Foundation will host their second casino night starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Trotter Center on Fifth Ave. N in downtown Columbus. Tickets are $100 and will include $500 in funny money chips, one raffle entry and one ticket to the cash bar. Games include blackjack, roulette, craps, poker and slots.
