Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System (CLPLS) is excited to announce the upcoming Festival of Trees. All trees will be decorated and available for viewing between Dec. 9 through Jan. 4. There will be 22 trees this year decorated by the YMCA afterschool program, the Boys & Girls Club of the Golden Triangle, the Child Development Center at the CAFB, Student Life at MUW, among others.
For more than 50 years the library has showcased numerous trees that have all been decorated by local organizations and businesses. One of the first themes used in 1974 by previous CLPLS director, Chebie Bateman, was an “International Christmas” in which 13 trees were decorated by Lowndes County Garden Club members to reflect different countries around the world. Other themes used included Christmas Songs, the 12 Days of Christmas, as well as countless Christmas stories. By 1977, other organizations outside garden clubs started to participate and it became the festival that we know today.
For any questions about the trees, call the library at (662) 329-5304 or (662) 329-5300. Or can email Melissa Hering at [email protected] or Mona Vance-Ali at [email protected].
