The Barn Concert Series closed its 2024 music season on Oct. 24 and has already announced its full schedule for 2025.
But before the new year arrives, Steve and Kay Ellis, who run The Barn series, have announced one more show will take place Dec. 9 at the Columbus Arts Council’s Rosenzweig Arts Center, featuring Jobi Riccio and Paul Thorn.
Jobi Riccio, a Colorado native, was a finalist for Americana Newcomer of the Year at the annual awards ceremony at The Ryman Theater in September.
“After Jobi’s performance at the awards, the 2,600 people in the audience gave her a resounding standing ovation,” Steve Ellis said. “We are very fortunate to be able to book her between shows in Birmingham and Oxford, where she is opening for the Wood Brothers.”
When 2025 arrives, there will be a special day of two shows on March 21 at Mississippi University for Women’s Cromwell Theater. Native Mississippian Paul Thorn will perform two album release concerts at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Native Mississippian Paul Thorn will perform two album release concerts at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. “We were approached by Billy Maddox, Paul’s manager, and he said they wanted to release the new album at a Mississippi concert and wanted to know if we’d like to host it?” Ellis said. “I told Billy, of course, and he said, well how about two shows? So that’s what we’re going to do.”
Both shows will be Paul Thorn with his full band.
2025 Barn Concert Series
The Barn also has announced its full 2025 Barn Concert Series, to be held at their New Hope location. The series begins on April 24 with a concert featuring Los Angeles artist and multi-instrumentalist Abbie Posner. Opening her show will be another California native, Paula Fong. Ellis saw and signed both artists at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City back in March.
On May 15, Austin, Texas artist Pat Byrne will perform. Byrne, a native of Ireland, moved to the U.S. in 2019 and has been traveling the country from coast to coast. He is currently touring with folk legend Dar Williams. Opening for Byrne will be 16-year-old Lindy Urban of Florence, Alabama. Lindy is related to longtime Muscle Shoals performer and producer, Spooner Oldham, who is mentoring her on her burgeoning career.
The third concert of the 2025 series will be June 5 with Vancouver Island, Canada’s Jeff Plankenhorn. “Plank,” as he’s known, is a phenomenal slide guitarist and songwriter and his latest album, “Alone at Sea” has received rave reviews. Opening the show for Plank will be Kris Angelis, a singer-songwriter who splits her time between Nashville and Los Angeles.
The Barn takes a break during the hottest months of July and August, but will kick things back off on Sept. 18 with a blue-based show featuring award winning blues guitarist Doug MacLeod and singer songwriter Rachel Maxann.
On Oct. 10, New York City artist Jonatha Brooke will come to The Barn to perform and Ellis couldn’t be more excited.
“Jonatha is one of my all-time favorite singer-songwriters,” Ellis said. “Her voice is one-in-a-million and her writing is personal and intense.”
Opening Brooke’s performance will be Memphian Wyly Bigger, a keyboardist and songwriter who performed a showcase at Americanafest in Nashville in September.
The last show of next season will be on Oct. 23 with Englishman Ben Jones and Irish native Andrea MaGee, who go by the moniker, “Beat Root Revival.” They are a multi-instrumentalist roots duo, combining elements of folk, blues, country, and rock ‘n’ roll to create a melodic sound, made up of powerhouse harmonies. Supporting the duo will be King Margo, made up of Lucciana Costa and Rachel Coats, Kentucky natives now performing out of Nashville.
All of the shows in the series take place on Thursdays, with the exception of Jonatha Brooke, who will be performing on a Friday night.
Tickets for all Barn concerts can be found at barnconcertseries.com. Jobi Riccio, Paul Thorn and season tickets are available now. Individual tickets for the six concerts in the series will go on sale on Jan. 1 at that same web address.
At all concerts held at The Barn location, the Ellises provide free dinner and beverages for the audience. They place a donation jar near the food tent and raise funds for different local charities. In 2024, the donations from the audience amounted to $14,546 and went to 5 charities and to assist a neighbor who lost his home in a house fire.
