Sherry Ivy: You will reap what you sow

By Sherry Ivy • March 19, 2022

Sherry Ivy

We should make it a habit of sowing good things in our lives, so we can reap good things because everything we do has consequences. We have no way of knowing how or when all the things we do will come back to us, but we do know we will reap what we sow. “Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.” (Ephesians6:8) KJV

No matter how people mistreat us we have to still treat them the way we want to be treated. If we want others to respect us, we have to show respect to others first! We must never sow what we ourselves aren’t willing to reap in return.“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12) NKJV

Have you ever had a person literally try to bring you down, or set you up for a fall? If so, don’t let them upset you. They’re only setting themselves up for a big fall, they will reap what you sow. “He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.” (Psalm 7:15) KJV

Despite our best efforts, we all judge others. It might be over small things, like a co-worker who took too long of a lunch break or it might be over a bigger issue. Regardless of the reason, when we judge others, God will judge us, and we will reap what we sow. “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:2) NIV

Sometimes our friends, business partners or neighbors will try to make trouble for us by spreading lies to make us look bad in some way. Those who conspire against others, bring all those bad things on themselves, they will reap what we sow. “The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads.” (Psalm 7:16) NLT

When we’re burdened by sorrow from the death of a loved one, we know that our times of grief will end and we will once again find joy. If there were no sowing in tears there would be no reaping in joy. “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” (Psalm 126:5) KJV

So be encouraged today and always remember: If we don’t like what we’re reaping, we need to change what we have been sowing because we will reap what we sow. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7) KJV
