A car caught fire a little after noon Wednesday in the Columbus Place parking lot.
When Columbus Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene, firefighters found the vehicle already fully engulfed, with nearby vehicles at risk.
Crews acted quickly to put the fire out, according to a CFR press release. No injuries were reported.
CFR Public Information Officer Jaquay Sherrod said crews were on the scene for a little more than 40 minutes.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the fire was linked to a mechanical issue in the vehicle, the release said. Sherrod told The Dispatch the car made a loud noise “like an explosion” after the owner started it, and the vehicle caught fire.
