STARKVILLE — For 15 games, the Mississippi State University baseball team hasn’t looked like an inexperienced team at the plate or in the field.
MSU coach John Cohen and his 27 active players agreed Saturday was a good time for those things to pop up before Southeastern Conference play begins next week.
MSU had what Cohen called a “teaching moment” Saturday in a 6-1 loss to Mercer University at Dudy Noble Field. The Bulldogs had only seven at-bats with runners in scoring position. The loss snapped a season-best seven-game win streak.

STARKVILLE — Rick Stansbury’s office in the Mize Pavilion isn’t littered with championship trophies or game balls. Instead, Stansbury’s sanctum inside the Mississippi State University basketball program’s new practice facility is filled with pictures of what he says is important.
Hundreds of pictures of Stansbury’s wife, Meo (Mellen), and their sons, Noah, Issac, and Luke, fill the walls of an office that overlooks the Starkville campus. The pictures serve as a reminder of the importance Stansbury places on a family that has traveled with him since he accepted the job as MSU’s men’s basketball coach in 1998.

NEW ORLEANS — Judging by his comments Wednesday, forward Arnett Moultrie would be fine walking the Mississippi State University men’s basketball team’s game plan to the University of Georgia.
Hint to Georgia coach Mark Fox: MSU is going to try and stuff the basketball in the lane.

But a five-run comeback in the final three innings provided a new and exciting ending for MSU in a 5-4 victory against the University of Connecticut.
Bracewell has soreness in pitching elbow
STARKVILLE — The feeling happened again to Mississippi State University starting pitcher Ben Bracewell.
Bracewell, the Bulldogs’ opening night starting pitcher this season, had to be removed from the team’s 5-4 victory against the University of Connecticut on Friday due to soreness his right pitching elbow, according to MSU baseball coach John Cohen.
