Snaer, South Carolina rally past Missouri
STARKVILLE — Kaylea Snaer knows she needs to step up for the South Carolina softball team.
As the team leader in batting average, Snaer has to deliver when she has opportunities to drive in a run.
Snaer’s ability to follow the advice of hitting coach Calvin Beamon on Wednesday helped her make the most of her chance, as she hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning that forced extra innings and helped send South Carolina to a 7-4 victory against No. 17 Missouri in eight innings in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Nusz Park.

Mullen will take time to name starting QB
STARKVILLE — Dan Mullen doesn’t have a timetable for naming a starting quarterback.
The Mississippi State football coach is in the process of replacing Dak Prescott, who broke 38 school records and was drafted last week by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round (135th pick overall) of the NFL draft. But after 15 spring practices, Mullen didn’t see any of the four quarterbacks separate themselves, so the picture is still unclear.
Robson working way back for Bulldogs
STARKVILLE — Jacob Robson always gives it his all.
That’s why it was no surprise when the Mississippi State junior outfielder scored from first base on a failed pickoff attempt by Ole Miss pitcher Will Stokes on April 1. The ball skipped past first baseman Will Golsan and allowed Robson to hustle around the diamond and to slide in safely at home.
But Robson didn’t know the play would cost him 13 games.

PEARL — Jacob Billingsley couldn’t find the strike zone two weeks ago.
Pitching against Memphis on April 13, the Mississippi State right-hander threw four pitches to right-handed hitting Damo DeMatteo that landed in the left-handed batting box.

Rooker playing key role for Bulldogs
STARKVILLE — Brent Rooker didn’t know what to think.

Rooker was relieved to hear he suffered only ligament damage. Rehabilitation helped Rooker get ready for opening day, but his ankle flared up again and caused him to miss a few games.
